My name is Laura and I am the founder of Roots Counselling Services.

I am a fully qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, based near to Newcastle upon Tyne. I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and can be found on their register of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (https://www.bacp.co.uk/search/Register) which is approved by the Professional Standards Authority for Health & Social Care. My certificate number on the register is 380850.

You can also find me listed on the 'find a therapist' section of the BACP website (http://www.bacp.co.uk) and the Counselling Directory (http://www.counselling-directory.org.uk).

The core model of my training is Transactional Analysis (TA), however the way in which I work tends to be naturally more person centred. I am an integrative therapist, using different models of counselling in my work including TA, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness techniques. Being an integrative therapist means I use my knowledge of different therapeutic approaches during our work, which enables the freedom and flexibility to work in a way which suits you as an individual.  I have undertaken additional training in order to offer telephone and online counselling services.

I have worked in a range of different settings, including the voluntary sector, the National Health Service (NHS) and more recently a counselling service in Newcastle City Centre. I have supported clients who have worked to understand, and address, a range of different issues such as mental health difficulties, bereavement, work related issues, identity issues, trauma, relationship difficulties, and addictions.

As a committed professional, I ensure that I regularly attend training events and courses which aid in my Continued Professional Development (CPD), making sure that my skills and knowledge remain up to date. I also comply with the BACP requirement for Counsellors to receive regular counselling supervision. I have also been DBS checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service and have an Enhanced Criminal Record Certificate.
